There are several ways your ophthalmologist can extract the cataract. One option employs an ultrasound-driven device to break up the cataract. It will then be removed by a suction device. Another common method uses an instrument which mechanically breaks the cataract into small pieces before removing it through the incision. Surgery is considered the most effective treatment for the removal of cataract. One type of cataract surgery is the Extra-capsular surgery which removes the affected lens only, leaving the majority of the lens capsule intact. The other surgical removal of the cataract is Intra-capsular surgery which removes the entire lens of the eye.

One of the latent dangers of cataract surgery is the progression of glaucoma. It is by reason of the pressure through certain fluids utilized during the procedure. These fluids, not like others, are incapable to move across the natural drainage of the eye, in so doing causing tribulations. More rarely, the cataract surgeon may perform "intracapsular cataract surgery," an older procedure to remove the entire cataract through a larger incision when the lens has been damaged or dislocated. You should not feel pain during the procedure, but may feel pressure and some discomfort due to the bright lights required for surgery.
